tower over long sandy beaches and incredible archaeological
sites.
Cagliari, the islands capital, is a modern bustling port.
There are thousands of remnants of prehistoric man dotted
around the island. Located 47 kms on the coast from Cagliari
airport is the unique resort of Forte Village. Set in 55 acres
of lush vegetation the resort offers an excellent range of

Spain & the Canaries
Fuerteventura
If you like Sun Sea and some of the best beaches in the
Mediterranean you are sure to find what you are looking for
on the island.
Corralejo, in the north of the island, and
Fuerteventura's largest resort, has plenty of restaurants,
bars and shops. Just outside the town is a 7-mile stretch
of golden sand. Beware that the sea currents can be strong
here, but it is a great beach for working on the tan. You

minutes.

come. It has resorts like Puerto Rico and Playa del Ingles
with many bars, clubs and restaurants.
Ibiza
Ibiza's image has been tarnished by the reputation it gained
in the late 1990's, largely centred on San Antonio. But don't
let the thought of drunken Brits in football shirts put you
off Ibiza - an isolated problem that has been exaggerated.
You can expect parts of San Antonio to live up to that, but
organised pub-crawls are now banned. Remember that Ibiza is
a whole island - Ibiza Town is a sophisticated and cosmopolitan
place, while many resorts are geared towards families and
couples.
Hire a car and head north of the tourist spots to undiscovered
Ibiza. There are no big hotels, but whitewashed villages,
forests of pine trees and fig, orange almond and olive groves.
Beaches and coves remain isolated and are used only by locals
and clued up Europeans renting remote villas. Regulations
restrict the island being spoilt by over-development and the
contrast is amazing.
Playa d'en Bossa - is a largely family
beach that stretches for two miles and boasts the beachside
club-bar Bora Bora at the southern end close to Space.
Las Salinas - is the coolest and most exclusive
beach in Ibiza with a number of beach club restaurants such
as Malibu and Sa Trinxa serving up food and pumping out the
tunes.
Cala D'Hort - is isolated, remote and opposite
the stunning rock island of Es Vedra, this beach in the southwest
of Ibiza is one of the most spectacular spots on the island.
Benirras - is one of the best beaches in
Europe as is protected from the development that has blighted
other beaches. Expect the appearance of bongo players at sunset.
Cala Jondal - is relatively unknown by
tourists. This remote kilometre-long beach offers some of
the islands best beach bars.

Dubai
Alter
Dubai offers a fascinating mixture of attractions for visitors.
The emirate embraces an abundance of scenery in a very small
area. In a single day, the visitor can experience everything
from rugged mountains and awe-inspiring sand dunes to sandy
beaches and lush green parks, from dusty villages to luxurious
residential districts and from ancient houses to ultra-modern
shopping malls.
The emirate is both a dynamic international business centre
and a laid-back tourist escape; a city where the sophistication
of the 21st century walks hand in hand with the simplicity
of a bygone era. But these contrasts give Dubai its unique
flavour and personality; a cosmopolitan society with an international
lifestyle, yet with a culture deeply rooted in the Islamic
traditions of Arabia. Since earliest times, Dubai has been
a meeting place, bringing together the Bedouin of the desert
interior with the pearl diver, the merchant of the city with
the sea-going fisherman. Having expanded along both banks
of the Creek, Dubai's central business district is divided
into two parts - Deira on the northern side and Bur Dubai
to the south - connected by a tunnel and two bridges.
One of Dubai's greatest visitor attractions is its superb
shopping. The city draws large numbers of 'shopping tourists'
from countries within the region and from as far a field as
Eastern Europe, Africa and the Indian Subcontinent. As an
open port with low import duties, Dubai's retail prices are
reasonable and the variety of products available is virtually
unrivalled. Free of tax, many top brand-name products are
cheaper in Dubai than in the countries of their origin.

New Zealand is a country of countless contrasts. Active

the landscape.
